Valle d'Aosta
E' la più piccola Regione d'Italia, posta alla sua estremità nord - occidentale, al confine tra Francia e Svizzera. Tutto parla di vette maestose, in questo territorio in prevalenza montuoso e soprattutto delle cime più alte delle Alpi come il Cervino, Il Monte Rosa, il Gran paradiso e sua maestà il Monte Bianco che, con i suoi 4810 m. non ha pari in Europa: è il tetto del vecchio continente. Effettuare scalate non è impresa di tutti, ma chi non ha dimestichezza con l’alpinismo, può ricorrere al comodo e spettacolare servizio di funivia, disponibile a pochi chilometri da Courmayeur, considerata una delle più importanti stazioni sciistiche del mondo.
Nel panorama delle sue imponenti montagne e delle variegate valli, si trova il più antico Parco Nazionale, il Gran Paradiso dove è ancora possibile incontrare gli animali nel loro ambiente naturale: stambecchi, camosci, aquile, marmotte immersi in una vegetazione dalle varie caratteristiche in base all’ambiente circostante.
Storicamente la Val d’Aosta è considerata una terra di contatto e di fusione tra l'Italia e la Francia, caratteristica che si riflette sul bilinguismo ufficiale e sul suo statuto di regione autonoma speciale. I grandi, moderni tunnel del Gran San Bernardo e soprattutto del Monte Bianco, capolavoro di ingegneria che sbocca in territorio francese, hanno aumentato la sua caratteristica di crocevia tra l'Italia ed il resto d'Europa.

Aosta Valley is the smallest region in Italy and is in the north-west, between France and Switzerland. Its core is its majestic peaks in this mainly mountainous region, centred around the highest parts of the Alps; Cervino, Mount Rosa, Gran Paradiso and the king of them all, Mont Blanc, which at 4810 metres is the highest mountain in Europe: it is the roof of the old Continent. Those who are not familiar with mountaineering can use the comfortable yet spectacular cable car, which can be caught a few kilometres from Courmayeur, one of the most important ski resorts in the world.
In this setting of stately mountains and different types of valley, sits the oldest National Park, the Gran Paradiso, where it is still possible to see animals in their natural habitat - ibex, chamois, eagles and marmots live in vegetation which changes according to the surrounding environment.
Historically, the Aosta Valley has been viewed as land of contact and fusion between Italy and France, which is reflected in its official bilingualism and its special autonomous region status. The great modern tunnels of Gran San Bernardo and, even more so, Mont Blanc, an engineering masterpiece that ends up in France, highlight even more clearly this aspect of intersection between Italy and the rest of Europe.
The only province of the region is Aosta (regional capital).
Das im Nordwesten an der Grenze zu Frankreich und der Schweiz gelegene Aostatal ist die kleinste Region Italiens. Die überwiegend bergige Region wird von den majestätischen Gipfeln dominiert, allen voran den höchsten Gipfeln der Alpen wie dem Matterhorn, dem Monte Rosa und dem Gran Paradiso mit Seiner Majestät dem Mont Blanc. Er ist mit seinen 4810 m der höchste Berg Europas und das Dach des alten Kontinentes. Seine Besteigung ist nichts für jedermann. Wer sich nicht für Bergsteigen interessiert, kann sich gemütlich mit der Seilbahn zum Gipfel bringen lassen, die vom bekannten Wintersportort Courmayeur aus fährt.
Im Panorama dieser gewaltigen Berge und der bunten Täler liegt der älteste Nationalpark Italiens (Gran Paradiso), in dem man noch Tiere in freier Wildbahn beobachten kann wie Steinböcke, Gämsen, Adler und Murmeltiere.
Historisch ist das Aostatal durch den engen Kontakt und die phasenweise Vereinigung mit Frankreich geprägt, was sich auch in der offiziellen Zweisprachigkeit des Landes niederschlägt sowie im Status als autonome Region. Die großen, modernen Tunnel, der Sankt-Bernhard- und der Mont-Blanc-Tunnel, sind technische Meisterwerke. Sie garantieren eine rasche Verbindung nach Frankreich und haben den Verkehr zwischen Italien und dem restlichen Europa gefördert.
Die einzige Provinz ist Aosta (Regionalhauptstadt).
